ICBME Conference History

1st ICBME 2016 (UTM Johor Bahru, Malaysia)
Launched on 10 November 2016 at UTM, the inaugural ICBME laid the groundwork with the theme
“Enhancing Multidisciplinary Research Areas of Biosciences & Medical Engineering.”
It aligned with Malaysia’s MyRAII framework, delivering keynote sessions, invited papers, and
research outputs that emphasized translational research and knowledge linkage.

2nd ICBME 2019 (Bali, Indonesia)
Co-organized with Udayana University (UNUD) with the theme
“Towards Innovative Research and Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations.”
This edition expanded regional collaboration through MoUs and LoIs, yielding indexed publications
(AIP Conference Proceedings) and strengthening bilateral academic ties.

3rd ICBME 2021 (Virtual, UTM Johor Bahru)
Held jointly with iMEDiTEC2021 as iMEDiST2021, this virtual edition during the COVID-19 pandemic
provided a global platform for innovations in biosciences and biomedical technologies with the theme
“Synergy for Future Sustainability.”

4th ICBME 2022 (IIUM, Kuantan, Malaysia)
A tri-partite collaboration between UTM, IIUM, and UNUD, this edition expanded the conference to
Malaysia’s East Coast. The theme was
“Scientific Advancement for Sustainable Resolution of Pandemic.”

5th ICBME 2023 (Bali, Indonesia)
Returning to Bali, the conference theme
“Advances in Nanotechnology for Biosciences and Medical Engineering”
attracted more than 195 participants. A key highlight was the pre-conference workshop on nanomaterial
characterization.

6th ICBME 2024 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
Organized by the Centre of Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano) and UTM’s Department of Biosciences,
themed “Emerging Sustainable Technologies in Biosciences & Biomedical Research.”
Supported by MOSTI, MRANTI, and NNC.

7th ICBME 2025 (Malang, Indonesia)
Hosted by Universitas Brawijaya in collaboration with UTM, this hybrid event drew over 300
participants. Keynote speaker Prof. Fahrul Huyop delivered
“Nutrigenomics and Microbiome Research in Southeast Asia,”
aligned with the theme
“The Significance of Bioscience in the Advancement of Medical Science and Global Health.”
